A multi-phase leadership succession plan began over a year ago. In 2021, Mr. Mizeur was appointed to serve as COO, and Mr. Pankau was elected to succeed Ed Sellers as board chair in April. Mr. Sellers was elected chair emeritus, according to a July 5 news release.
Mr. Pankau has been with the company for nearly 30 years and had been CEO since 2010.
Mr. Mizeur started at BCBS in 1998. He has served in several senior leadership roles, including CFO for 10 years prior to being named COO.
