Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts has hired Sophie Clarke, MD, as chief strategy officer and senior vice president, according to a Sept. 18 news release.
Dr. Clarke’s role will focus on corporate strategy, along with identifying companies to fund through Blue Cross’ private equity and venture capital arm, Zaffre Investments.
Prior to joining Blue Cross, Dr. Clarke served as Elevance Health’s founding president of Carelon care navigation. She also has experience at Elevance as head of clinical domain strategies and partnerships, staff vice president of enterprise strategy and senior director and chief of staff to the chief strategy officer. Before Elevance, Dr. Clarke worked at McKinsey and Co.
Dr. Clarke’s appointment comes after BCBS of Massachusetts reported a net loss of $129.7 million in Q2.
