Mr. O’Grady is president of health plan markets at CDPHP, according to a June 26 news release. Before joining CDPHP, he held leadership roles at Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield.

John Bennett, MD, CDPHP’s current CEO, has been appointed CEO of the health plan’s holding company, Excelsior Health. He will work to secure the approval of CDPHP’s proposed merger with The Lifetime Healthcare Co., according to the news release.

Dr. Bennett has led CDPHP since 2008.

In May, CDPHP said it planned to affiliate with The Lifetime Healthcare Co., which owns Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield. The merger, which is pending regulatory approval, would create an organization with nearly 2 million members and 6,000 employees.

CDPHP has usually appointed physicians to lead the organization, according to the release.

“Despite our long-standing tradition of having a physician at the helm, our board is confident that Brian understands and supports our physician-centered approach to managing CDPHP, and I am certain he will prioritize the needs of our trusted physician partners,” Michael DeVito, MD, chair of the plan’s board of directors, said in the release.

Mr. O’Grady will begin his role as CEO on July 1.
