AmeriHealth Caritas CEO stepping down

AmeriHealth Caritas CEO Paul Tufano will step down Sept. 1.

In a July 11 news release, the company said it will conduct a national search for Mr. Tufano’s replacement. Thomas Hutton, executive vice president and general counsel of Independence Health Group, the parent company of AmeriHealth Caritas, has been named interim CEO. 

Mr. Tufano has led the company since 2014. AmeriHealth Caritas operates Medicaid managed care plans, Medicare Advantage and individual plans in 13 states. 

The company is jointly owned by Independence Health Group and Blue Cross and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.
