9 recent payer exec moves

From a new president and COO at Centene to a new leader at Humana Military, these are nine payer executive moves reported by Becker's since Dec. 1:

  • Centene promoted Ken Fasola to president and Jim Murray to chief operating officer Dec. 14 as current president and COO Brent Layton plans to retire. Dave Thomas, currently executive vice president of markets, has been promoted to CEO of markets and Medicaid. The payer also named Alice Chen, MD, as chief medical officer, effective Jan. 1, and Brian LeClaire, PhD, as chief information officer, effective Dec. 5.

  • Health Share of Oregon CEO James Schroeder was appointed interim director of the state's Health Authority, Oregon Capital Chronicle reported Dec. 13. 

  • UnitedHealth Group appointed Kristen Gil, vice president and business finance officer at Google parent company Alphabet, to its board of directors Dec. 12.

  • Providence Health Plan promoted two employees to market president Dec. 8: Scott Burton to lead commercial and Shannon Drotning to lead consumer and specialty. 

  • BCBS Kansas City named UnitedHealth Group's former chief information officer of benefits operations, Todd Dunivant, as senior vice president and COO Dec. 7.

  • Oscar Health appointed Sanford Health CEO Bill Gassen to its board of directors Dec. 7. 

  • BCBS North Dakota promoted Megan Houn to vice president of government affairs and public policy Dec. 5.

  • ConnectiCare President Karen Moran left the company to become president of Humana Military, the Hartford Business Journal reported Dec. 2.

  • Independence Blue Cross promoted Sushma Akunuru to senior vice president of business technology services and Kortney Cruz to senior vice president of government markets Dec. 2.
