UnitedHealthcare, UNC Health near split date

UnitedHealthcare and Chapel Hill, N.C.-based UNC Health are continuing to negotiate on a new contract but remain at odds as an April 1 split date looms, Fox affiliate WGHP reported Feb. 22.

UNC Health said in a statement that it is continuing to negotiate in good faith with the payer, but "we remain far apart," according to the report. UnitedHealthcare said in a statement that they are actively exchanging proposals with UNC Health and "have made significant movement along with proposing meaningful rate increases that ensure the health system continues to be reimbursed at market-competitive rates."

A split would affect UNC patients with UnitedHealthcare group, individual and Medicare Advantage plans, according to UNC Health's website. Patients with UnitedHealthcare's Medicaid plans would remain in-network, as would several UNC physician practices and facilities.
