UnitedHealthcare, Orlando Health at impasse as contract deadline looms

Patients with UnitedHealthcare plans could go out of network at Orlando (Fla.) Health if the two sides are unable to reach a new contract by July 31, the Orlando Sentinel reported July 18.

The two sides have accused each other of holding up negotiations, making misleading statements regarding the talks and making unreasonable proposals, according to the report.

UnitedHealthcare sent letters to about 74,000 members who recently received care through Orlando Health, warning them of the potential split, according to the report. A split would affect patients with employer-sponsored and individual plans; Medicare Advantage, including the group retiree PPO plan; and Medicaid, including the dual special needs plan.

Both sides said they are committed to meeting as often as it takes to strike an agreement before the deadline, according to the report.
