UnitedHealthcare, OHSU at odds over new contract

Portland-based Oregon Health & Science University will go out of network with UnitedHealthcare if the two sides are unable to reach a new contract agreement by March 31, Willamette Week reported Jan. 30.

About 74,000 patients would be affected by the split, according to the report.

UnitedHealthcare alleges that OHSU is asking for a 36% price increase for its commercial plans over two years and a 15% increase for Medicare Advantage plans, according to the report. The payer said that OHSU's proposal would make it the most expensive health system in its Medicare Advantage network in the Portland metro area.

OHSU said it finds the current UnitedHealthcare contracts make it hard to "offer the level of care we want to provide," according to the report.

"This will not be a decision made lightly," the system said.

Both sides said they are continuing to work toward an agreement.
