New York City-based Mount Sinai Health System could go out of network with UnitedHealthcare on Jan. 1 if the two sides are unable to reach a new contract.
The potential split would affect Mount Sinai patients with UnitedHealthcare employer-sponsored and individual plans, including the Oxford Health Plan, according to UnitedHealthcare's website.
UnitedHealthcare accused Mount Sinai of unrealistic proposals that would "significantly drive up premiums and out-of-pocket costs for consumers as well as the cost of doing business for employers."
A Mount Sinai spokesperson told Gothamist Dec. 27 that the health system has been working in good faith with UnitedHealthcare to "establish a new, fair agreement that will put patients first and protect patients’ ability to choose Mount Sinai for care and we hope to reach a new agreement before the end of 2023."
