UConn Health to go back in network with Aetna

Through a multiyear agreement, Farmington-based University of Connecticut Health will go back in network for Aetna commercial and Medicare Advantage members starting March 1, an Aetna spokesperson confirmed to Becker’s Feb. 25.

“This new agreement ensures continued access to high-quality, convenient care while helping control healthcare costs for Connecticut families, local employers and retirees,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

The contract originally expired Dec. 1, prompting UConn Health to go out of network. Retirees of state government employment and Aetna Medicare PPO ESA members were not affected, the health system previously said. According to the insurer, some commercial members were still able to access UConn Health hospitals through January.

In December, UConn Health’s website had said Aetna’s reimbursement rates were a roadblock in reaching an agreement.

A UConn Health news release shared with Becker’s said Aetna members with postponed appointments during the negotiations can now reschedule.

“After spirited negotiations, we are pleased to have reached new contract terms that ensure our patients the access they need and our UConn providers the reimbursement they deserve,” UConn Health Board of Directors Chair John Driscoll said in the release.
