Brunswick-based Southeast Georgia Health System will terminate its contract with the WellCare Medicare Managed Care Plan on Dec. 8.
The split comes after the sides were unable to come to an agreement after months of negotiations, according to an Oct. 2 news release from the health system. The system alleged that it started negotiations with the Centene subsidiary after years of "inappropriate payment claims and unreasonable denials."
The system said in the release it will continue to provide care for WellCare plan members through Dec. 31 and will continue to provide care to patients with certain conditions, such as chronic or complex illnesses, at in-network rates if patients obtain approval from WellCare for Continuity of Care.
