'Quick resolution' to WakeMed-UnitedHealthcare dispute not expected

Raleigh, N.C.-based WakeMed has been out of network with UnitedHealthcare since June 1, and while contract negotiations are ongoing, a hospital spokesperson told CBS affiliate WNCN Sept. 8 they are "not confident in a quick resolution."

WakeMed first issued a termination notice in November 2021. It previously said the impasse stems from payment practice language regarding medically necessary treatments.

The WakeMed spokesperson said patients "must plan for longer-term disruption and increased financial responsibility when choosing care from WakeMed," according to the report.

When contacted by WNCN regarding the negotiations, UnitedHealthcare confirmed they were ongoing but did not share any further details.
