Penn State drops Aetna for Highmark to administer employee health plan

Highmark Blue Shield will become the new health benefits provider for the 39,000 people employed by Penn State starting next year, the Daily Collegian reported Sept. 7.

The State College-based university told the student newspaper that Aetna and CVS Caremark would no longer administer its employee health and prescription drug benefits after doing so for the past five years.

Penn State cited the need for a better provider network and opportunities to create more partnerships. There will be no change to employee benefits after the switch.
