In an Oct. 6 news release, the health system cited “continued, unresolved concerns about patient care and administrative burden” as the reason for the break.
In August, the system said it was considering dropping all Medicare Advantage plans and encouraged its patients to opt for traditional Medicare over MA.
St. Charles will remain in-network with four MA providers in 2024: Providence, Moda, PacificSource and Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield. On Sept. 29, the system said it had reached a deal with PacificSource, which removed prior authorization requirements for patients receiving care at the system’s cancer center.
“We care deeply about our patients and the care they receive, which is why we are unwilling to continue with the status quo with Medicare Advantage plans that result in restrictions to patient care, longer hospital stays and administrative burdens for providers,” Mark Hallett, MD, chief clinical officer at St. Charles said.
The system will be out of network with Humana on Dec. 31 and with HealthNet and WellCare on Feb. 1.
