Ohio hospital drops Anthem Medicare Advantage, Medicaid plans

Adena Regional Medical Center is terminating its contract with Anthem BCBS' Medicare Advantage and managed Medicaid plans in Ohio, effective Nov. 2.

The flagship facility of Chillicothe, Ohio-based Adena Health System said rate negotiations between the organizations "have not been productive," leading it to terminate its agreement with Anthem.

"Anthem's reimbursement rates fall short of the compensation necessary to ensure the cost of care to our patients," the hospital wrote on its website. "In addition, unpaid claims, denials, and delays by Anthem, as well as its administrative burdens and vague reimbursement policies, don't align with Adena Health's mission, vision, or values."

Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Ohio is a subsidiary of Elevance Health. Becker's has reached out to Elevance for comment and will update this article if more information becomes available.
