New Mexico awards Medicaid managed care contracts, drops Centene

New Mexico will award Medicaid managed care contracts to Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico, Presbyterian Health Plan, United Health Plan and Molina Health Plan.

In an Aug. 11 news release, the state's human services department said it would not negotiate a new contract with Centene subsidiary Western Sky Community Care.

BCBS New Mexico and Presbyterian Health Plan currently have contracts to manage the state's Medicaid program for 934,305 individuals.

New Mexico extended the implementation date for the new contracts to July 1, 2024. They were previously set to take effect in January 2024. In January, the state canceled the Medicaid contract procurement process underway after the departure of the state's Human Services Department director and Medicaid director.
