Molina, Amerigroup tapped for Iowa Medicaid contracts

Iowa said Aug. 31 it intends to award four-year Medicaid managed care contracts to Elevance Health's Amerigroup Iowa and Molina Healthcare of Iowa.

The two payers join Centene's Iowa Total Care, which holds a contract through 2025, to help manage the state's $7 billion program that serves 790,000 Iowans, according to the Des Moines Register.

The Register reported that five bids were received in total, and Molina received the highest proposal score because of "advanced preparation." Aetna Health of Iowa, CareSource Iowa and UCare Iowa were not selected.

There are no immediate changes for Medicaid members in Iowa and the new contract begins July 1.
