Kroger inks new contract with Prime Therapeutics ahead of Express Scripts exit

Kroger and Prime Therapeutics have agreed to a new contract.

The new contract comes as Kroger, a grocer with 2,200 pharmacy locations nationwide, plans to exit Express Scripts’ network at the end of 2022. In September, Kroger said it would leave Cigna’s Express Scripts’ network over “unsustainable” reimbursement rates.

In a Dec. 16 joint news release, Kroger said the agreement with Prime Therapeutics, owned by 19 Blue Cross Blue Shield plans, will “mitigate” the impacts of the Express Scripts contract termination for Medicare Part D members.

The company says it will remain in network for “nearly all” national and regional Medicare Part D plans.
