Elevance Health is pushing to maintain its health plan contract for New York City employees, according to a Nov. 13 Bloomberg article on the court filings.
The news outlet spotted an appeal in the case that was briefly public. The court has sealed many documents related to the case.
Over the past two years, Elevance has contested the city’s contractual changes. This summer, New York City announced a self-funded health plan run by EmblemHealth and UnitedHealthcare to start in 2026. Bloomberg reported that Elevance called the move “arbitrary and capricious.”
The city claimed it will save money with the new contract. Tensions between the city and Elevance mounted over the release of pricing data earlier this year, with the insurer ultimately agreeing to share more information.
