Cigna Healthcare and St. Louis-based BJC Health System reached a new agreement to keep the system’s patients in-network with the payer, the St. Louis Business Journal reported July 31.
The new agreement went into effect Aug. 1, according to the report. The payer and health system’s previous contract was set to expire on July 1 but the parties extended the agreement through the end of the month as they continued to negotiate.
BJC Health System formed in January 2024 through the merger of St. Louis-based BJC HealthCare and Kansas City, Mo.-Saint Luke’s Health System.
Officials did not respond to questions regarding the length of the new contract, according to the report.
“BJC and Cigna have successfully concluded their negotiations for both BJC HealthCare and Saint Luke’s Health System,” a BJC spokesperson told the St. Louis Business Journal. “We are pleased to announce that the BJC system in both regions will remain in network with Cigna’s commercial plans as of August 1 and beyond.”
