Jacksonville, Fla.-based Baptist Health will go out of network for Cigna Healthcare on June 23, the health system confirmed to Becker’s.
Cigna’s commercial members would be affected, while those with HealthSpring Medicare supplement plans would not.
Some services, facilities and providers do not fall under these negotiations, including some behavioral health services, home infusion services, CareSpot Urgent Care, durable medical equipment for cancer patients and respiratory care-at-home resources.
Baptist said it offered Cigna a rate reduction, but “their decision makers refused to meet with us. This is almost unheard of and this type of non-engagement is highly unusual.” The spokesperson also said Cigna’s proposal would interfere with physicians’ ability to decide on medical necessity.
“We remain available to Cigna at any time if they are willing to negotiate in good faith,” the system said.
Becker’s contacted Cigna for comment and will update this story if more information becomes available.
At the Becker's 5th Annual Fall Payer Issues Roundtable, taking place November 2–3 in Chicago, payer executives and healthcare leaders will come together to discuss value-based care, regulatory changes, cost management strategies and innovations shaping the future of payer-provider collaboration.
