Hollister, Calif.-based Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital's contract with Anthem Blue Cross has been terminated, NBC affiliate KSBW reported Sept. 19.
Hazel Hawkins CEO Steve Hannah told the news outlet it has been fighting for a higher compensation rate with Anthem for more than a decade. He said the hospital seeks a rate in line with what the insurer pays other hospitals.
"We know in general what they're compensating and they're actually paying those hospitals, we believe, more than they would be paying us," Mr. Hannah said.
Mr. Hannah said the hospital is working with lawmakers to try to get Anthem to agree to a higher rate, according to the report.
