BCBS Texas, Hendrick Health could split Feb. 1 over contract dispute

Abilene, Texas-based Hendrick Health could go out of network with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas if a new contract is not in effect by Feb. 1, the Abilene Reporter-News reported Dec. 6.

A BCBS spokesperson told the news outlet the health system sent it a notice of termination and a demand for higher prices. The termination would affect those with Blue Choice PPO, Blue Essentials and Blue Advantage HMO plans. The company did not provide information on how many beneficiaries would be affected.

"While we want agreements that compensate Hendrick fairly, their rate demand is clearly not in the best interests of our members, Abilene businesses or the communities we serve in the region," BCBS said in a statement.

The health system said in a statement shared with the newspaper that it has been working in good faith to negotiate a new contract and is "hopeful that the parties reach an updated agreement appropriate for both BCBSTX and Hendrick."
