The five-year deal will allow BCBS beneficiaries to return to in-network status at Springfield Clinic beginning Jan. 1. Springfield Clinic has been out of network since November 2021.
During the two-year dispute, Illinois fined BCBS multiple times because of outdated information in its provider directory. The payer’s parent company, Health Care Service Corporation, received a $231,900 fine from the Illinois Department of Insurance in November. The payer has since updated its directory and complied with other state orders.
Springfield Clinic created its own health plan during the dispute called Springfield Clinic Advantage. The plan is available to employers with 10 or more employees in central Illinois. A Springfield Clinic spokesperson told The State Journal Register the plan will remain available once the BCBS agreement takes effect.
At the Becker's 5th Annual Fall Payer Issues Roundtable, taking place November 17–19 in Chicago, payer executives and healthcare leaders will come together to discuss value-based care, regulatory changes, cost management strategies and innovations shaping the future of payer-provider collaboration.
