Aetna, UC San Diego Health to split April 21

Some Aetna plans will be out of network at UC San Diego Health on April 21 if the two organizations don't agree on a new contract.

Plans affected include commercial and Medicare policies, according to UCSDH's website. Members can continue to receive covered care through April 21, with some patients potentially eligible for continuity of care.

UCSDH has contracts with many other health plans, including Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield of California, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Health Net and Molina.

"We are actively working with Aetna to reach a fair agreement to allow Aetna HMO and PPO members to continue to access care at UC’s health locations as part of the company’s provider network. We seek to avoid any disruption in access and care for Aetna members," a spokesperson for the Office of the President at University of California told Becker's.
