Aetna, HCA Florida reach agreement covering 48 hospitals

Aetna and HCA Healthcare hospitals in Florida have reached a new contract agreement, avoiding a split that would have left 48 hospitals out-of-network.

According to Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA, the hospital system reached an agreement with Aetna to keep commercial, individual and Medicare Advantage members in-network at all HCA facilities in Florida. There will be no disruption in patient care, according to a statement on HCA’s website. 

“HCA Healthcare is committed to providing high-quality, high-value care to the people of Florida. We are pleased to renew this agreement and continue to provide Aetna members with the exceptional care they have come to expect from us,” the health system said on its website. 

An Aetna spokesperson told Becker’s the insurer reached a multi-year deal with HCA. 

“We will continue to collaborate with HCA Florida Healthcare to support the care of our shared members and patients,” the spokesperson said. 

Earlier in September, HCA reached a contract agreement with UnitedHealthcare on the day the contract was set to expire. The agreement covered HCA hospitals in four states. 

Contract negotiation disputes between payers and providers that were reported in the media increased 69% between 2022 and 2023, according to data from FTI Consulting.
