Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Ann Arbor-based Michigan Medicine have formed “a new, long-term contract,” according to a joint statement the organizations shared with Becker’s May 27.
The insurer and health system originally had until July 1 to agree on in-network status. Without a contract, 300,000 people would have been affected, the insurer previously told Becker’s. Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement members were not affected by the negotiations.
“We are grateful to have reached an agreement that ensures continued access for our patients and for Blue Cross members across the state to the world-class care available at Michigan Medicine,” Michigan Medicine CEO and Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs for University of Michigan David Miller, MD, said.
The organizations will meet in the coming weeks to finalize details ahead of the renewal date. The final terms will remain private.
