Enrollment increased at higher rates among Latino, Black, and American Indian and Alaska Native populations than among white and Asian-American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander populations.
- The number of Latino enrollees increased by 53 percent.
- The number of Black enrollees increased by 49 percent.
- The number of American Indian and Alaska Native enrollees increased by 32 percent.
- The number of Asian-American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander enrollees increased by 6 percent.
- The number of white enrollees increased by 11 percent.
According to the report, published Oct. 25, increased subsidies for coverage and investments in outreach programs from the American Rescue Plan Act helped drive the increases.
“This underscores the importance of outreach and enrollment assistance,” Cynthia Cox, vice president at the Kaiser Family Foundation, told The Washington Post. “We know that there were large numbers of people, particularly Hispanic people, who were eligible for free or reduced cost coverage but weren’t taking it up.”
