Strategists with ATI Advisory, the Center for Health Care Strategies, the Scan Foundation and the National Opinion Research Center wrote in an opinion piece that California’s Office of Medicare Innovation and Integration could serve as a model for other states to put resources into dual-eligible populations.
“For other states interested in expanding Medicare capacity, considering an approach similar to that of California would position them to meet the needs of all Medicare beneficiaries across their state,” the authors said.
Dual-eligible beneficiaries are Medicare recipients who also qualify for Medicaid on the basis of income.
California has used stakeholder input, data analysis and surveys of older residents to understand how it can improve dual-eligible care, according to the article.
