BCBS New Mexico taps new chief medical officer

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico has named Latha Raja Shankar, MD, as chief medical officer, the Albuquerque Journal reported May 14.

Dr. Shankar will be responsible for the development and clinical oversight of BCBSNM’s healthcare management programs. 

She currently serves on the National Alliance on Mental Illness New Mexico board of directors, New Mexico Telehealth Alliance board and Doña Ana Wellness Institute advisory council. Prior to joining BCBSNM, Dr. Shankar was the chief medical director for Western Sky Community Care and also served as chief medical officer for Molina Healthcare of New Mexico.
