HHS extends risk adjustment for COVID-19 telehealth services

HHS said April 29 that it is extending telehealth and telephone-only services in its risk-adjustment program for benefit year 2022 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The program transfers funds from plans with low-risk enrollees to plans with high-risk enrollees to help stabilize premiums for non-grandfathered plans in the individual and small group markets, according to the American Hospital Association

Telehealth and telephone-only services were first included in the risk adjustment program in 2020 due to the pandemic and the increased need to expand the use of those services, according to HHS.
