Arkansas Blue Cross donates $5M to expand state’s mental healthcare

Arkansas Blue Cross’ Blue and You Foundation is providing $5.29 million in grants to eight behavioral health programs in the state, according to a July 16 news release.

The programs awarded the grants are focused on early intervention practices, expansion of the state’s behavioral healthcare workforce and removing care access barriers.

Rates of anxiety, depression and suicide in Arkansas are higher than the national average, the statement said. Behavioral health needs often go unmet as 65.7 percent of the state’s adolescents reported they had not received treatment for a major depressive episode, also higher than the national average.
