Under the law, states received additional federal aid provided they did not remove Medicaid coverage from anyone until the public health emergency’s end. As a result, Medicaid enrollment increased by 9.7 million members between February 2020 and January 2021, the article said.
Though Medicaid enrollment numbers often shifted before the pandemic due to the fluctuating incomes of its members, states suspended periodic eligibility checks during the pandemic.
