The following four companies were chosen: Amerigroup Iowa, which is a member of Anthem; UnitedHealthcare Plan of the River Valley; WellCare of Iowa; and AmeriHealth Caritas.

“These companies have demonstrated that they can manage Iowans’ care so they’ll be connected with the services they need to help them lead healthier lives,” said DHS Director Charles M. Palmer.

The contracts go into effect Jan. 1, 2016, and each insurer in the program will probably get annual premiums of about $900 million to $950 million, Peter Costa, an analyst at Wells Fargo, told Bloomberg.
