The center, announced in August, will be housed in a repurposed retail space in Chicago’s Morgan Park neighborhood. BCBSIL, part of Health Care Service Corp., said the center will bring 550 jobs to the area.
The insurer plans to fill the space with customer service support members and healthcare providers. Once the facility opens in mid-2020, residents can attend free health and wellness classes, connect with community resources, and receive health insurance education at the center.
Maurice Smith, president of HCSC, said in a prepared statement: “When we needed to expand our operations, we looked to areas where we could make the most impact — for our members, our employees and the entire community. And here we are — getting ready to turn a former retail store into a hub for the community — offering jobs and other opportunities that can make a difference to the economic and physical health of the community.”
