CMS proposes 1.84% payment increase for Medicare Advantage plans: 3 things to know

CMS wants to raise Medicare Advantage plan payments by an average 1.84 percent in 2019, according to a recent notice.

Here are three things to know about the proposed change.

1. When taking coding trends into account, CMS anticipates payments will increase by an average of 3.1 percent for 2019.

2. The proposed updates will “result in a payment increase that promotes stability and insures [sic] that resources will be available to support beneficiaries enrolled in private Medicare plans,” CMS said.

3. CMS will publish final rate changes April 2. The agency will accept comments through March 5.
