UPMC Health Plan posted an operating income of $447 million (4.7% operating margin) in the first half of 2026, up from $106 million (1.1% margin) during the same period last year, according to the system’s Aug. 27 financial report.

The increase was primarily driven by reduced claims expenses resulting from lower utilization across the health plan’s commercial, Medicare, Medicaid and LTSS segments, along with rate increases for Medicaid, LTSS and behavioral offerings.

Insurance enrollment revenue was $9.4 billion in the first half of 2026, up from $8.7 billion during the same period a year earlier. The health plan’s medical loss ratio was 88.3% as of June 30, down from 90.9% a year earlier.

The health plan has nearly 4 million members, down from approximately 4.15 million a year earlier.
