UnitedHealthcare is allowing employers to opt into offering lifestyle spending accounts as a post-tax benefit for their health plans.
Members with these accounts can select eligible wellness offerings, sometimes at a discount. Some potential offerings focus on stress, sleep, fitness, family planning and mindfulness. A July 9 news release and video cited survey findings showing the majority of employees consider well-being as important as salary, and 30% to 40% of employers anticipate offering a lifestyle spending account.
“Consumers want a more personalized healthcare experience with greater choice,” Alison Kosup, chief product officer for UnitedHealthcare’s commercial business, said in the news release. “Our sustained strategy is focused on advancing flexible innovations that balance affordability with a more empowered consumer experience.”
The benefit is integrated with the UHC Store, UnitedHealthcare’s digital shopping platform embedded within its app and website. Transactions are managed at their point of purchase.
At the Becker's 5th Annual Fall Payer Issues Roundtable, taking place November 2–3 in Chicago, payer executives and healthcare leaders will come together to discuss value-based care, regulatory changes, cost management strategies and innovations shaping the future of payer-provider collaboration.
