CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield has partnered with benefits platform Thatch to build an individual coverage health reimbursement arrangement model for brokers and employers across Washington, D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia.
The partnership aims to give employers a defined contribution alternative to traditional group health coverage, allowing workers to use employer funds toward CareFirst individual market plans. The arrangement is designed to streamline enrollment, eligibility verification and payment processes for brokers administering ICHRA benefits, according to an April 20 news release.
CareFirst selected Thatch to serve as a central administrative hub for the program, citing the company’s compliance infrastructure and broker relationships. The two companies plan to coordinate broker outreach and employer education as ICHRA adoption grows in the DMV market.
