Hospitals run by HCA Midwest Health — under Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare — will go out of network for Cigna commercial members May 1 unless an agreement is reached, the system said on its website.
Members would lose access to hospitals, freestanding emergency rooms and ambulatory surgery centers run by HCA Midwest Health, which has facilities in Missouri and Kansas.
The health system assured patients that “we are actively negotiating in good faith … to reach a compromise with Cigna Healthcare,” according to the statement available on HCA Midwest’s website.
Cigna said HCA Midwest Health “is demanding changes that would significantly increase costs for employers and patients.”
“Our goal is to reach an agreement that keeps HCA Midwest Health hospitals in our network while maintaining affordable, accessible care for the communities we serve, and negotiations are ongoing,” a Cigna Healthcare spokesperson told Becker’s April 28. “HCA Midwest Health hospitals remain in network, and we are working in good faith to avoid any disruption. Any agreement must balance continued access with responsible, competitive pricing for patients and the employers that supply their health plans.”
