Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan will relocate 130 employees from its suburban Cascade office to its downtown Grand Rapids building, according to an April 21 news release.
In May, renovations will begin on the West Michigan headquarters in Grand Rapids to accommodate the higher headcount. Cascade employees will transition to the downtown location in September, and the Cascade building will officially close in October. Currently, 270 BCBS Michigan employees work from the Grand Rapids space, which previously housed a department store.
A spokesperson told Becker’s the move contributes to “broader transformation efforts and [a] focus on operational efficiency,” adding that the Cascade building was determined to be “a low-occupancy location.”
The Cascade building will be listed for sale in 2027.
