SCAN Group chose Aman Bhandari, PhD, to serve as its first chief AI officer, according to a March 27 news release.
Dr. Bhandari will lead enterprise AI and advanced analytics at SCAN. The organization is focused on deploying AI to ease employee functions, as well as to strengthen clinical and service delivery. Applications include medical chart summary, call summary and interactive voice response tools.
With experience leading AI efforts at Vertex Pharmaceuticals and Merck, Dr. Bhandari is comfortable scaling technology solutions in the healthcare space. He also served the White House as senior advisor to the U.S. and HHS chief technology officer and worked as a senior health economist at CMS.
Dr. Bhandari will report to Chief People and Transformation Officer Lindsay Crawley-Herbert, a departure from how other companies often house AI solely within technology teams, according to the release.
“We believe that successful AI transformation is fundamentally about people,” Ms. Crawley-Herbert said. “The challenge with AI isn’t implementing the technology — it’s marrying the complexity of the technology with how the workforce adopts and uses it effectively and ethically.”
