CalOptima CEO to retire

CalOptima Health CEO Michael Hunn is retiring on Dec. 31, 2026. 

Mr. Hunn was named interim CEO of the insurer in 2021 and CEO in 2022. His accomplishments include creating street medicine programs, establishing a department dedicated to implementing CalAIM benefits, and leading the organization toward the launch of marketplace coverage. CalOptima serves more than 870,000 low-income enrollees in Orange County, Calif.

“I am proud of everything we have achieved at CalOptima Health over the past five years, and I will remain fully committed and focused through the end of the year,” Mr. Hunn said in a Jan. 22 news release. “We have reinvigorated CalOptima Health and reestablished our plan as a trusted community partner that serves members with dignity and respect. Together with CalOptima Health’s Board of Directors, executive leaders, staff and numerous Orange County leaders, we have made a difference in the community and fulfilled the mission to serve members. We just celebrated our 30-year anniversary, and our commitment to quality care for those most in need has never been stronger.”

Prior to joining CalOptima, Mr. Hunn was president and founder of a healthcare consulting firm. He also has more than 25 years of executive leadership experience in CEO and president roles with hospitals and health systems.
