1 in 5 Nevadans using state marketplace enroll in new public option plans

About 20% of Nevadans who actively selected a health plan through the state’s marketplace, Nevada Health Link, picked a new public option, Nevada Health Authority Director Stacie Weeks told lawmakers Jan. 6.

In 2025, Nevada secured federal approval for its Battle Born State Plans, which have premium reduction targets. Nevada Health Link is offering these plans for the first time.

Nevada is getting pass-through funding to support the effort. The plans were projected to save $322 million at the federal level — decreasing spending on premium tax credits — over the five-year waiver period, attributed to the targets and reinsurance program.

“We do have affordable products,” Ms. Weeks said. “They may not offer all the same benefits, but we really want people to come in and shop and make sure before they decide that they are just going to disenroll and be uninsured.”

The state historically has a high uninsured rate relative to the rest of the country.
