Digital identity wallet service ID.me entered into a contract with CMS, with rollouts to improve secured access and user experience coming to Medicare.gov in early 2026.

ID.me will act as an identity verification and sign-in option for the website. User log-in credentials are also valid across 21 federal agencies, including the Social Security Administration, 50 state agencies and over 600 private organizations.

Medicare beneficiaries begin their enrollment process at SSA, so unifying the credentials can limit friction between the websites. The initiative also contributes to CMS’ interoperability goals.

“By extending ID.me’s high-assurance identity capabilities across CMS and Medicare.gov, we’re creating a more unified patient experience while strengthening overall program integrity,” Blake Hall, founder and CEO of ID.me, said in a Dec. 16 news release. “This collaboration demonstrates what’s possible when government and technology work together to protect sensitive data at a national scale.”
