CMS tracked the percentage of Medicare beneficiaries using various preventative services in the year leading up to fall 2024.
The agency collects this data every two years. For 2024, CMS gathered data on the use of seven preventative services.
Compared to 2022, use was up for every service besides digital rectal exams of the prostate, which 21.3% of male beneficiaries received in the last reporting period.
Here is the 2024 ranking of preventative services based on the percentage of eligible Medicare beneficiaries who used them:
1. Blood pressure screening: 97%
2. Blood cholesterol screening: 91.3%
3. Annual wellness visit: 63.1%
4. Blood test for detection of prostate cancer*: 59.9%
5. Mammogram or breast X-ray**: 51.7%
6. Oral/mouth cancer exam: 34%
7. Digital rectal exam of prostate*: 17.9%
