More than half of ACA marketplace enrollees would be likely to pick up extra work if healthcare costs increase by $1,000 per year, a Dec. 4 KFF analysis found.

With enhanced tax credits set to expire at the end of the year, ACA insurers have been raising premiums. In November, KFF surveyed 1,350 individuals with these plans.

If encountering a $1,000 increase, 55% of enrollees said they would be very likely or somewhat likely to try and find an extra job. Sixty-seven percent said they would be very or somewhat likely to cut back on spending for basic household items. Most enrollees reported they would not be able to afford even a $300 annual increase.

Fifty-three percent of respondents said finding another source of health insurance coverage would be a major challenge if they could no longer afford their plan. Fifty-four percent said they expect their health insurance costs to “increase a lot more than usual” in 2026.
