Evernorth Care Group, the care delivery division of Cigna Group, is laying off 143 employees at its Scottsdale, Arizona location, according to regulatory documents filed in November.

In September, Scottsdale-based HonorHealth announced plans to acquire Evernorth Care Group’s facilities, which serve 80,000 patients across the Phoenix area. The 11 Evernorth facilities involved in the deal will join the HonorHealth system once the transaction closes, expected in January. Evernorth operates a total of 18 care facilities in the region.

The facilities not included in the acquisition will cease operations once the deal is finalized. The layoffs pertain to positions that will be eliminated around the time of the transaction’s closure, with no immediate terminations expected.

“HonorHealth values the clinical expertise of our teams, and we believe they will consider the majority of our clinical staff in their hiring process,” a spokesperson for Evernorth Care Group told Becker’s. “In the interim, there are no immediate changes to operations, care delivery, or services. Our clinics remain open, and patients can continue to see the same providers and clinical teams.”

In 2024, Evernorth Care Group consolidated some Arizona locations, resulting in 261 employees being laid off.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Fall Payer Issues Roundtable, taking place November 2–3 in Chicago, payer executives and healthcare leaders will come together to discuss value-based care, regulatory changes, cost management strategies and innovations shaping the future of payer-provider collaboration.
