Indiana is removing MDwise as a managed care health plan offered within the state’s Medicaid programs, effective Jan. 1.
MDwise is part of Grand Blanc, Mich.-based McLaren Health Care. Its current Medicaid contract with Indiana was awarded in 2023, and it manages care for 300,000 state residents, the Indiana Capital Chronicle reported.
The change comes after a state review of MDwise’s performance, which found that the insurer was both the most expensive and the lowest performing among the four Medicaid options available in Indiana, according to a Nov. 12 announcement from the state.
Members currently enrolled in MDwise will not lose their Medicaid benefits, but they will need to select a new health plan during open enrollment. Anthem, CareSource, and Centene’s MHS are the remaining options. Members who do not make a selection will be automatically assigned to a plan and can change it within 90 days of Jan. 1, 2026.
