Ambetter from Home State Health, a Centene subsidiary, will return $87.5 million in ACA rebates to Missouri members, according to a statement from the insurer.

The rebates stem from failing to meet medical loss ratio requirements under the ACA, which outlines how much payers can retain for administrative or marketing costs and profits. For context, payers were expected to issue $1.1 billion in medical loss ratio rebates across all commercial markets in 2024, per KFF.

UnitedHealthcare is sending rebate checks to members in some states this month, including Missouri. The insurer said it owes $359 million in rebates.

Editor’s note: An earlier version of this article said that Centene would return over $1 billion in rebates to Missouri members, citing a Sept. 22 report from the Missouri Independent.
